----------------
Introduction:
----------------

Welcome to the Shop Patch for PSOX. The purpose of this patch is to fix some annoyances with various aspects of the shop. This patch accomplishes two things:

1) The Tool Shop inventory has been rebalanced to offer more useful items based on your current level. Two options are available: the Monos version of the patch offers guaranteed access to Monomate and Monofluid at all levels, while the Antis version of the patch offers guaranteed access to Antidote and Antiparalysis at all levels.

2) The Tekker has improved rates, so you don't have to argue as long to get the correct result.

More information is available at the end of this README file.

--------------
Installation:
--------------

After downloading and unzipping the PSO_Xbox_Shop_Patch.zip archive, you should have this README.txt file, six different patching programs, and two other files -- JudgeItem.rel and ToolRandom.rel. There are two versions of ToolRandom.rel: the "Monos" version gives guaranteed access to Monomate and Monofluid, and the "Antis" version gives guaranteed access to Antidote and Antiparalysis. Unlike most patches, this patch requires two different actions:

1) Use the patching program that matches your disc to patch default.xbe, as usual.

2) Replace JudgeItem.rel and ToolRandom.rel on your Xbox hard drive with the pre-patched files that you unzipped along side the README and patching programs.

--------
Part 1:
--------

Each patching program is meant for one of the six possible PSOX releases that you might have:

NTSC-J Disc
NTSC-J Title Update
NTSC-U Disc
NTSC-U Title Update
PAL Disc
PAL Title Update

The "Disc" patches will allow you to patch the base game that you've extracted to your Xbox hard drive. The "TU" patches will allow you to patch the PSOX Title Update, if you have it installed.

To check whether you are using the PSOX Title Update, navigate to:

E:\TDATA\4d53004a\$u\

and check the contents of this folder. If you have the PSOX Title Update, you should see a file named "default.xbe" in this folder. If you don't have this file, then you should navigate to where you have PSO installed on your Xbox hard drive, e.g.:

E:\games\PSO\

and look for "default.xbe" in that folder.

Note that if you're using the PSOX Title Update, patching the "default.xbe" file that came from your PSO disc will have no effect; when the PSOX Title Update is installed, your Xbox will ignore the original "default.xbe" in favour of the one that came with the Title Update. You only need to patch the original "default.xbe" if you don't have the Title Update.

Always be sure to keep a clean backup copy of your game files, so that you don't have to dump your game again if you make a mistake!

Once you've determined whether you need to patch the base game or the Title Update, copy "default.xbe" from your Xbox hard drive to your PC's C:\ drive. Run the patching program that matches the region (JP, US, or EU) and version (Disc or TU) of the PSOX release you're using, and then click the "..." button. A window will open asking you to select the "default.xbe" file you want to patch. Navigate to C:\, and you should see the "default.xbe" file you just copied from your Xbox hard drive. Select it, then click the "Open" button. Now press the "Start" button, and you should get confirmation that the file was successfully patched. When you close this message, the patching program will automatically close, too. You have now applied the patch.

Before you copy "default.xbe" back to your Xbox, you may want to apply other patches, first. Once you've applied all of the patches you want to use, you can copy the updated "default.xbe" back to your Xbox, replacing the original file.

--------
Part 2:
--------

Now that you've patched default.xbe, navigate to where PSO is installed on your Xbox hard drive, e.g.

E:\games\PSO\dvd\

Select either the Monos or Antis version of the ToolRandom.rel file included with this patch, depending on whether you want guaranteed access to Monos or Antis in the Tool Shop, and then copy JudgeItem.rel and ToolRandom.rel to your Xbox hard drive, replacing the original files. You may wish to copy the original files from your Xbox to your PC first, as a backup.

That's it! You can now play the game with the patch.

--------------------
Troubleshooting:
--------------------

If the patching program gives an error that says:

"default.xbe - File size/version missmatch!"

then that means you tried to use a patching program that doesn't match your PSO version. Double check which region of PSOX you have and whether the Title Update is installed on your Xbox, and then select the patching program that matches your game version.

Details
--------

1a) The Tool Shop will now introduce the following item changes at the following levels with the Monos version of the patch:

Lv43: Monomate, Monofluid remain as fixed items; Scape Doll appears randomly

Lv61: Trimate, Trifluid, Sol Atomizer, Star Atomizer become fixed; Antidote, Antiparalysis, Telepipe, Trap Vision appear randomly; Scape Doll appears more often

This way, you can always buy the useful healing items from the shop without having to reload Pioneer 2 to make them appear. Unfortunately, the Tool Shop has a limit of 11 items that can appear at once, so it's impossible to make everything appear every time. Since Sol Atomizer functionally replaces Antidote and Antiparalysis, it makes the most sense to demote them to random item status. Telepipe and Trap Vision generally do not need to be used as often as healing items do, so they are also demoted to random items but at a high enough rate that they will usually appear.

1b) Alternatively, the Tool Shop will now introduce the following item changes at the following levels with the Antis version of the patch:

Lv43: Monomate, Monofluid remain as fixed items; Scape Doll appears randomly

Lv61: Trimate, Trifluid, Sol Atomizer, Star Atomizer become fixed; Monomate, Monofluid, Telepipe, Trap Vision appear randomly; Scape Doll appears more often

The Antis version of the patch gives priority to Antidote and Antiparalysis for people who wish to raise multiple Mags and are willing to sacrifice guaranteed access to Monomate and Monofluid for the sake of always having access to Mag food.

2) The Tekker now has a greatly improved chance of giving you +1 special tier and +10%. In addition, each Tekker's speciality has been enhanced. Each Tekker is more proficient at tekking a specific type of non-rare weapon and will be more likely to produce the correct result when tekking that weapon type. The Tekker proficiencies are:

Viridia: Shot
Greennill: Rifle
Skyly: Sword
Bluefull: Partisan
Purplenum: Mechgun
Pinkal: Cane
Redria: Handgun (new)
Oran: Dagger
Yellowboze: Saber (new)
Whitill: Slicer

On average, it would take 9 tries to tek a weapon to +1 special tier and +10%, but it would take 3 tries to get the same result with the Tekker who is proficient at the type of weapon you're tekking.

Huge thanks go out to Ralf for figuring out how the shop works and to Soly for figuring out how Sega's shop .rel files work.

That's the end of this README; I hope everyone enjoys being able to buy Monomates after level 42. Don't forget to visit PSO Palace, the home of this patch.
